Pakistani troops in Saudi Arabia have been present for decades, according to a confirmation attributed to the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations. Reports published on 8 October put the current presence at around 15,000 personnel, along with fighter jets.

The confirmation underlines a long-standing military partnership between Islamabad and Riyadh, built on shared faith, trust and cooperation. It also presents Pakistan’s armed forces as a dependable and professional partner in the Gulf.

Makkah Defence Pact Moves Towards Implementation Of Pakistani Troops In Saudi Arabia

The announcement arrives as the new Makkah defence pact moves towards implementing collective security commitments. The agreement can be read as a formal framework for cooperation that already exists on the ground.

Pakistan has repeatedly stated a strong commitment to the security of Saudi Arabia, and the confirmation gives that position a clearer practical footing. For Pakistani audiences, the story reflects pride in a military whose professionalism is valued by close partners.

Houthi Attacks Shape the Security Debate

Houthi attacks on the kingdom have intensified, which has increased attention on how partners can respond. Earlier reports suggested that Pakistan could raise its presence to as many as 25,000 troops, although the final figure depends on official announcements.

The central policy question concerns how collective security commitments are put into practice, including command arrangements, rules of engagement and the balance between defensive support and regional diplomacy. A clear and transparent framework, communicated carefully to the public, would help to sustain trust at home and strengthen Pakistan’s standing as a stabilising partner in the region.
