The huge gas line explosion at the Hattar Industrial Estate of the Haripur district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, known as the Haripur Gas Pipeline Explosion, has resulted in a major emergency scenario as the rescue force initiates immediate action to curb the fire and rescue those affected. The accident was in the vicinity of a grinding mill on the Grand Trunk Road, where a gas pipeline burst abruptly, leading to a great fire which rapidly spread to nearby premises.
Rescue officials reported eight deaths, with five of them being a woman and a child. Others, such as women and children, were injured as a result of burns and inhalation of smoke. Quick response efforts were effective, according to emergency teams; at least four women and six children were pulled out of the affected area.
The house adjacent to the house under fire was also caught by the fire, and this worsened all the damage and made the process of rescue more difficult. The local authorities, Rescue 1122 teams, made efforts to control the fire and evacuate people living in the neighbourhood. Immediately, ambulances were dispatched, and the wounded people were taken to neighbouring hospitals, the emergency departments of which were put on high alert.
It has been preliminarily reported that suffocation due to heavy smoke could have been an important cause of the deaths. The regulatory officials have initiated an enquiry to identify the actual cause of the compromise on the pipeline and whether it was due to either maintenance or a technical factor.
Rescue Efforts and Safety Concerns in Industrial Zone
It took hours before rescue efforts could be stopped when the firefighters fought to put out the fire and avoid further propagation. There were also temporary relief arrangements to affected families, whereby the medical teams handled cases of burn injuries.
The accident has once again questioned the level of safety in factories in Pakistan, especially in those areas where the residential area and the industrial area are adjacent to each other. Governments have made commitments to inspect safety measures and increase tight security to avoid more tragedies in future.
