A new effort for Mazar-e-Quaid chandelier restoration in Karachi has refocused attention on the conservation of one of Pakistan’s most important national monuments. The Quaid-e-Azam Mazar Management Board in its 102nd meeting discussed the proposal to restore the site and plans to upgrade facilities for visitors.
The meeting was presided over by Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture and chairman of the board, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi. Officials discussed proposals for preservation, management and accessibility of the mausoleum and the adjoining Bagh-i-Quaid, and stressed the significance of upholding the monument and its historic features.
Historic Chandelier Plagued By Delays Since 2016
The historic chandelier was taken down from its original location in 2016, and plans to restore it were repeatedly postponed. The board meeting’s discussions suggested that financial and administrative issues had contributed to the long period of uncertainty surrounding the project.
The important artifact associated with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah has been deprived of its original setting for years due to the delay.
