KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur has called an emergent session of the apex committee for Kurram district on Friday due to escalating security threats. The meeting has been called following recent violence that has led to the deaths of 130 people and 186 others suffering injuries in the area.
The senior officers meeting which will convene the civil and military authorities, Provincial Cabinets, and District administrations, seeks to set an overarching plan for sustainable peace in the region. A Grand Jirga will brief about the peace initiatives made by it till now and the committee will also work on the terrible scarcity of basic necessities like food, oil, and medicines due to the blockage of roads for a long period.
This violence started in Lower Kurram where vehicles route from Peshawar to Kurram were attacked and 38 people were killed on the spot. The attack proceeded as gunmen attacked villages such as Kalu Kunj, Badshah Kot, and Bagan Bazar burning houses and killing women and children.
