TikTok, the renowned social platform celebrated for its captivating video content, has recently made a significant announcement. In a move to offer users more versatility, the platform will now introduce text-only posts, positioning itself as a competitor to the embattled Twitter.
This new feature on TikTok will bear similarities to the text posts already present on Instagram, which initiated a challenge to Twitter earlier this month under the name “Threads,” after Twitter was rebranded as “X” by its owner, Elon Musk.

With an impressive user base of approximately 1.4 billion monthly active users, as reported by specialist site Business of Apps, TikTok is well-positioned to benefit from its size, much like Meta-owned Threads.
However, TikTok has taken a different approach from Facebook’s parent company, Meta. Rather than creating a separate product like Threads, TikTok has chosen to integrate the text-only feature directly into its existing app.
Visual aspect of TikTok
While TikTok’s version of text-only posts will retain a visual aspect, allowing users to incorporate color backgrounds, music, and stickers into their posts, it will still be distinct from the traditional Twitter or Threads posts.
According to the Chinese-owned company, this new format aims to push the boundaries of content creation for all TikTok users, tapping into the creativity often expressed through comments and captions.
Although smaller platforms like Mastodon, Bluesky, and Substack Notes have emerged as potential rivals to Twitter, none have managed to dethrone Twitter despite its ongoing challenges.
