Imran Khan holds world's largest Twitter space

On Wednesday, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan broke a global record as he had the maximum number of people on his Twitter Space.

PM Khan spoke during a live session ahead of his party’s rally in Lahore.

Twitter Space – a relatively new feature of the social media platform – allows unfiltered discussions and live conversations. During the former premier’s session, a total of 446,000 people tuned from around the world to converse with Imran. The session was curated and hosted by Jibran Ilyas and Dr Arslan Khan on Wednesday night at 10 pm local time.

It was reported that about half a million users interacted with Khan, with an average of 165,000 users tuned in at a given time. The record was previously held by K-POP with over 44,000 listeners in his space.

PTI is known as the first mainstream political party to use social media effectively by formulating innovative campaigns. The party’s style of resorting to effective and robust social media strategies has successfully allowed it to amass global support. Since the ouster of PM Imran Khan through a vote of no-confidence in the Assembly, his party has used the hashtag “Imported Hakumat Na-Manzoor”, the largest trend in the country’s social media history — tweeted over 7 million times.

PTI’s official Twitter account congratulated Pakistanis, as the ex-PM’s session broke the record.

The PTI leader said that he never expected such huge crowds to come out in his support after his government was thrown out of power earlier this month. “When I saw them coming out, I was so happy that a nation was emerging. For the first time in my life, I saw where we should have been 75 years ago,” he added.

“Never ever speak against the army. We wouldn’t have survived if we didn’t have the army. It is more necessary than Imran Khan,” he said.
