Amid the country’s tense political environment, a new heated debate has erupted due to the rumours of former prime minister and PML-N supremo Sharif’s possible return to Pakistan.
The rumours were given further oxygen after Prime Minister Imran expressed surprise over media reports that Nawaz Sharif was returning home. PM Khan said efforts were underway to end the conviction of the former premier.
“How can a convicted criminal become prime minister of the country for the fourth time?”
Nawaz’s brother, Shahbaz Sharif, categorically said that Nawaz would not return until he had fully recovered. Pakistani political pundits, however, still suspect a deal between the ex-premier and the military establishment.
Former National Assembly Speaker and PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq’s statements also raised many eyebrows and raised the political temperature. He said, “something big was about to happen,” and there was something that he knew and was making him smile.

“It would happen all of a sudden. You won’t see it happening slowly. Nawaz Sharif is set to return to Pakistan.”
However, Pakistan’s leading publication, The News, has claimed today (Monday) that no deal has been struck between the establishment and Nawaz Sharif.
The publication claimed that the former prime minister was not returning to Pakistan anytime soon.
Quoting informed sources, the report denied any deal being struck yet. Furthermore, it elaborated that no ‘script’ was ready to facilitate the return of Nawaz Sharif from London. It merits mentioning that the former prime minister has been in London for the past year following Lahore High Court’s permission.
The newspaper also claimed that there had not been any direct contact between the establishment and Nawaz Sharif so far. As per the report, the second-tier leadership of N-League also appeared clueless about Nawaz Sharif’s thinking and whether he was in contact with those who matter to aid his return.
