Ajmal wants Amir’s apology for misbehaving with Harbhajan on Twitter

Former Pakistan spin maestro Saeed Ajmal has asked pacer Mohammad Amir to seek an apology from India’s Harbhajan Singh.

Ajmal said Amir had “jumped in” between Shoaib Akhtar and Harbhajan’s Twitter conversation – which was fatal to his fanbase.

“It was a discussion between two amazing cricketers, and Amir made the wrong choice by getting into it. I think Amir made a mistake, and he should apologise for it,” Ajmal said.

The right-arm spinner said players should treat each other with respect because cricket brings people together.

It merits mentioning that Mohammad Amir and Harbhajan Singh were embroiled in a war of words when Amir taunted the latter after Pakistan defeated India in the T20 World Cup match.

Harbhajan replied to Amir, and the two traded barbs.

The verbal brawl brought everything into the mix – from Shahid Afridi smashing the Indian spinner for consecutive sixes in a Lahore’s Test match of 2006 to Amir’s spot-fixing controversy.

Ajmal said the Pakistan cricket team’s performance in the World Cup had been exceptional, adding that he was surprised by the energy and zeal of the playing eleven.

“If you see our performance in T20 cricket in recent years, we were in a position of being unable to form a team. So keeping that in mind, such a performance is unbelievable. I have loved watching them play,” he said.

“This is the first time that Pakistan has straightforwardly qualified for the semi-finals,” he added.

He also talked about Pakistani power-hitter Asif Ali, asking him to remain consistent as a finisher for the squad. The spinner said Ali did not have age on his side; hence he should go for every opportunity that comes his way.

Ajmal advised Ali to work on “other areas of his game” as well, which included fielding and playing well against spinners.
