Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah ordered the people of Karachi to stay inside and not roam around after 8pm as his province fights with the surge in coronavirus cases.
These directions have been issued in a bid to enforce lockdown and curb the spread of the disease.
Shah issued these directives with immediate effect while he was chairing a meeting of the provincial coronavirus Task Force at the CM House on Monday.
Shah urged the Inspector-General (IG) of Sindh Police to prevent people from roaming around unnecessarily in the city in motor vehicles after 8 pm.
The provincial government’s spokesperson Murtaza Wahab, on Monday, clarified that the government does not want to impose a complete lockdown or a curfew and is just looking forth to straighten the curve.
He said that the government does not intend to shut down businesses, but it cares for the lives of people and cannot let them die.
The spokesperson, while highlighting the severity of the situation, said that in the last 10 days, the coronavirus patients have increased to a worrisome limit. He added that despite such a scenario, the government does not want to impose a complete lockdown.

Wahab said that the province was hit with a lot of criticism when it enforced a strict lockdown during the first wave of the pandemic.
“It is now that the government faces a similar situation again, but it has to take strict steps, but still it does not look forth to shut down businesses,” Wahab said.
The spokesperson urged people to abide by the government’s mandated COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs). He asked that if the masses wish that stricter curbs aren’t imposed, they should obey the Government and help it flatten the curve. do not wish the imposed restrictions to be tightened further.
