PM Imran has expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with India in its fight against second COVID-19 wave
Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed solidarity with the people of India on behalf of Pakistan and its people as the neighbouring country is grappling with an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 infections. Taking to Twitter on Saturday, PM Imran said that Pakistan prays for a speedy recovery of all those suffering from the pandemic in India and the world.

“I want to express our solidarity with the people of India as they battle a dangerous wave of COVID-19. Our prayers for a speedy recovery go to all those suffering from the pandemic in our neighbourhood & the world,” the Premier tweeted.
He further called on all countries across the world to come together to fight the global health challenge confronting humanity.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhary also expressed solidarity and prayers with the people of India in these challenging times.
“In these difficult times, our prayers are with people of India. May God be kind and may these difficult times get over soon,” the minister tweeted.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi expressed Pakistan’s support to the people of India in the wake of the current wave of rising COVID-19 infections. In his tweet, he extended heartfelt sympathies to the affected families in the country. FM Qureshi further called for greater cooperation among SAARC (South Asian Association For Regional Cooperation) countries to combat the pandemic.
“COVID-19 is yet another reminder that humanitarian issues require responses beyond political consideration. Pakistan continues to work with SAARC countries to foster cooperation to tackle the pandemic,” he wrote on Twitter.
India is currently struggling with a catastrophic second wave of COVID-19. The country’s healthcare system is collapsing as people are scrambling for beds, ventilators, oxygen supplies, and medicines amid a massive shortage of crucial medical equipment. In the past two days, India has recorded the highest number of daily cases in the world. On Saturday, 346,786 new COVID-19 infections were reported, with a record single-day death toll of 2,624 in India.
On Friday, Pakistan’s Edhi Foundation wrote to Indian PM Narendra Modi, offering assistance of 50 fully-equipped ambulances with medical staff to the country. In a letter to Indian PM Modi, Edhi Foundation’s chairman Faisal Edhi requested permission to enter India with 50 ambulances and a team of volunteers to support the country’s health professionals in their efforts to combat the pandemic.
“We would like to extend our help in the form of a fleet of 50 ambulances along with our services to assist you in addressing, and further circumventing, the current health conditions,” Faisal Edhi wrote in the letter to Modi.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan government continues to confront rising cases of COVID-19 in the country. On Saturday, Pakistan reported the highest death toll with 157 deaths since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country in 2020. According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, the country’s national positivity ratio has spiked to 11.27% with 5,908 new infections. Ruling out nationwide lockdown amid surging cases, PM Imran has urged the public to comply with COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curtail the spread of the virus.
