ISLAMABAD: In a bid to give relief to the masses in the holy month of Ramadan, Prime Minister Imran Khan has, on Tuesday, directed heavy monitoring of the prices and availability of essential commodities.
PM was chairing a meeting to review the availability and prices of essential items in view of Ramadan.
Federal ministers Syed Fakhar Imam, Omar Ayub Khan, Muhammad Hammad Azhar, Special Assistants Dr. Shahbaz Gill and Dr. Sania Nishtar, secretaries of the concerned ministries, newly made chairman FBR, chief commissioner Islamabad, and MD Utility Stores Corporation were amongst the attendees of the meeting.
PM Khan issued strict directions that legal action should be taken against the profiteers and hoarders whereas the implementation of corona SOPs should also be ensured in the Ramadan bazaars.

MD Utility Story Corporation briefed the meeting that a 20kg bag of flour was set to be available at Rs800, ghee at Rs170 per kg, and sugar at Rs68 per kg at the utility stores across the country.
The meeting was told that at present 2,000 tons of sugar, 2,600 tons of flour, and 1,200 tons of ghee were available and being sold on a daily basis at the utility stores.
The chief commissioner Islamabad briefed the meeting that across Islamabad, Sasta Bazaars had been set up where all essential commodities were set to be available at low prices. He added that all essential items will also be available to the residents of the capital through mobile vans in view of the corona pandemic.
The chief secretaries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab told the meeting that abundant availability of flour and sugar at fixed rates would be ensured in their respective provinces. Power Minister Omar Ayub Khan told the meeting that there would be no load-shedding whatsoever during the hours of Sehri and Iftar.
