Pakistan named Salman Ali Agha as their new T20I captain for the tour of New Zealand starting March 16. According to PCB, the board will let Mohammad Rizwan maintain leadership of the ODI team.
The PCB selected Salman as T20I leader after Pakistan failed to progress beyond the group stage of the Champions Trophy. Despite staying captain for the 50-over matches Mohammad Rizwan takes a backseat from ODIs while Shaheen Afridi continues his presence on the T20 team.
The five-match T20I series gives Pakistan a vital chance to improve their performance before the international tournament starts. The ODI team led by Rizwan will take three matches after the T20I series ends. The selection committee wants to secure stability in One-Day Internationals and introduce transformational leadership to Twenty20.
Pakistan will meet strong test cricket conditions during their tour of New Zealand. The matches will take place at top-tier cricket destinations of Eden Park and Hagley Oval. As Pakistan comes back to competitive play the team wants to see solid wins despite having Agha Salman Ali, Rizwan Mohammad, and Afridi Shaheen lead the squad.
