PM Shehbaz Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PM Shehbaz Khyber Pakhtunkhwa plans were outlined on 22 October 2026, when Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high-level Federal Apex Committee meeting in Peshawar. He pledged that the federal government, working with the military leadership, will bring back an era of happiness, peace and development to the province.

The meeting reviewed the security situation and counterterrorism measures, and included a briefing on the emergency in twelve districts. The Prime Minister also expressed sorrow over the deaths of a female teacher and children in a school roof collapse in Peshawar, and directed the Governor to visit the site and ensure a full investigation.

Security Forces and Past Sacrifices Recognised

The Prime Minister paid tribute to the armed forces and security agencies, saying their sacrifices restored complete peace in the province by 2018. He noted that nearly 80,000 people lost their lives in the war against terrorism, and said political families in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also made major sacrifices.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi described federal cooperation as essential for lasting stability and named the elimination of terrorists and their facilitators as the top priority. An advisory council of experts has also been set up to make sure the change delivers results, as covered in Government Defends Governor’s Rule In KP Amid Constitutional And Political Tensions.

Resources, Governance and the Policy Debate

According to the Prime Minister, the province has received PKR 800 billion since 2010 under the NFC Award for counterterrorism efforts. He said unfilled police vacancies, an incomplete Safe City project and limited training for police and the Counter-Terrorism Department weakened the response, and he cited alleged corruption of PKR 100 billion in a drinking water project and PKR 37 billion in the Kohistan case.

He added that the national economy has stabilised after two and a half years of work, which gives the federal government more room to support the province. Filling police posts, finishing the Safe City project, modern equipment and transparent accountability would turn the pledge into visible results for residents who have waited years for basic services.
