Pakistani scientist honored for innovation in agriculture in UAE
The achievement in global agricultural sciences has been proud indeed! The Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation in the category of “Influential Figure” was won by Dr Ghulam Sarwar Markhand, well-known researcher from Shah Latif University in Khairpur, Sindh.
The ceremony took place in the iconic Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi, where the event was attended by participants from 66 countries over two days. This celebration revolved around innovations and sustainability in global farming practices.
Pakistan-UAE Join Hands for Date Palm Development
- During the event, Pakistan established a MoU with the UAE in order to organize Second Pakistan International Date Palm Festival in 2025.
- The MoU has been signed by Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain of Pakistan and Dr Abdelouahhab Zaid, General Secretary of the Khalifa Award.
- The agreement is meant to improve date palm farming, sustainable agriculture, and encourage innovation and knowledge exchange between both nations.
Introduction Leaders and Diplomats
- The UAE’s Minister of Tolerance, Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan, lauded the role of awardees in propelling agricultural science.
- Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, was also mentioned for establishing strong diplomatic and agricultural ties between the two countries.
- The event ended with special honours to international figures, who played a major role in developing the date palm industry and promoting global agriculture.
