The Pakistan national hockey team is back in the spotlight following an impressive 3-2 win against France in the semi-finals of the FIH Nations Cup 2025 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This opens opportunities for Pakistan to reach the finals of the tournament and rekindle hopes for a comeback into the higher echelon of international hockey.
Big win for Pakistan hockey
The game opened well for Pakistan. Abu Mahmood opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a well-taken field goal from a penalty corner. Then Arbaz Ahmad doubled their lead in the 21st minute, piling on the pressure on France. The French got one back in the 23rd minute, but Pakistan were quick to strike again just before halftime through Rana Waheed, thus keeping them firmly in control of this encounter at 3-1. France hit again in the 38th minute, but it was Junaid Manzoor with the fourth goal in the 56th minute that ensured this win for Pakistan.
Pakistan to face either South Africa or Malaysia next
So, now, Pakistan will face the winner of the second semi-final, which is quite possibly South Africa or Malaysia, in the Nations Cup final. A win there might pave the road for Pakistan to qualify for the prestigious FIH Pro League.
