Pakistan prepares to celebrate Independence Day tomorrow

Tomorrow, 14 August, the nation of Pakistan prepares to celebrate its 77th Independence Day with a series of vibrant celebrations and a renewed commitment to the spirit of the Pakistan movement. There will be a number of events and ceremonies on the day reflecting national pride and unity.

A thirty-one gun salute in the federal capital, Islamabad, and a twenty-one gun salute in the provincial headquarters will begin the celebrations. Special prayers will be offered in mosques at dawn for peace, solidarity and the prosperity of the nation.

The day will culminate with the hoisting of the national flag in Islamabad, attended by senior government officials and dignitaries. Separate ceremonies will be held at provincial, divisional and district headquarters across Pakistan, reinforcing the sense of national pride and unity.

Pakistan Radio and Pakistan Television will highlight the extraordinary services and sacrifices of the heroes of the Pakistan movement on this day and pay tribute to their extraordinary contributions to making Pakistan a reality.

Cities across the country have been decked out in patriotic decorations in anticipation of the celebrations. Stands have sprung up along the roadsides, offering flags, badges, stickers and themed clothing for adults and children.

In many cases, public and private buildings are illuminated with colourful lights, adding to the festive atmosphere.

In a statement made at the Federal Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of celebrating the day with national zeal and fervour. The prime minister expressed the nation’s determination to reaffirm its commitment to serve Pakistan with utmost devotion and dedication.

At the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Sharif praised Arshad Nadeem for his remarkable achievement in athletics. Arshad Nadeem, who won the gold medal in the javelin throw at the Paris Olympics, has done the nation proud by ending a 40-year drought in the event and setting a new record. The prime minister said that Nadeem’s victory was a testament to the talent and determination of Pakistanis on the international stage.
