Pakistan’s Passport ranked 100th in the Henley Passport Index 2025
In a proud moment for Pakistan, its passport is now ranked 100th in the Henley Passport Index 2025, a rise from 113th in 2021. This increase means that citizens of Pakistan can now travel to 32 destinations without a prior visa or obtain a visa on arrival.
The Role of E-Passport and Technology
Mustafa Jamal Qazi, Director General Immigration and Passports, acknowledged and thanked the support of the Minister of the Interior, Mohsin Naqvi, and Secretary of Interior, for their support in reaching this level of achievement. In his remarks, Qazi credited the new e-passports, which utilize secure NFC chips that comply with international standards of ICAO, which has made Pakistani passports safer and more credible on an international level.
Qazi continued to share the exciting developments regarding e-gates that are coming soon to significant airports in Pakistan. The introduction of an e-gate will assist e-passport holders to transition quickly through the immigration process. The government has settled the backlog of the passports issue and has improved passport offices’ performance.
Qazi shared that for Pakistanis who are now living abroad, the new online application systems and “Passport Fee Asaan” will make finding a passport for those still wanting to be connected to their country simplified. It was noted that there will soon be a dedicated passport application app that will allow for applying from home. With the ongoing reforms, I expect that Pakistan’s passport ranking will continue to improve overall.
