Kashmir Through International Law: Washington Webinar
The Embassy of Pakistan, Washington held a webinar on the topic “Contemporary Challenges to International Law in South Asia: Jammu and Kashmir Dispute and the Indus Waters Treaty”. The event brought together diplomatic and policy views on two issues that Pakistan believes are central to regional peace and stability.
Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh said it is essential to keep in mind that international law and United Nations resolutions are the only way to resolve the Kashmir dispute. The discussion was in line with the existing international frameworks as an important foundation for sustainable peace in South Asia.
The webinar also underlined Pakistan’s continued use of diplomatic engagement and international dialogue to present its position on Kashmir. Such forums give Pakistani representatives a chance to reach audiences beyond the immediate region.
Pakistan Reiterates Support To Kashmiris
Messages during the Youm-e-Istehsal observances reaffirmed Pakistan’s political, moral and diplomatic support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for a long time. Pakistan’s leadership has always believed that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved peacefully in accordance with international commitments and relevant United Nations resolutions.

Youm-e-Istehsal was not just marked at the diplomatic mission in Washington. Virtual programs were organised by some educational institutions in Pakistan to discuss various aspects of the Kashmir issue.
The Virtual University Debating Society organised an online student-oriented session, “Seven Years of Military Siege in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir”. The program offered an academic and youth forum to debate developments surrounding the dispute.
Minhaj University Lahore’s Seekers Club also hosted an awareness forum themed “Beyond Borders: The Role of Global Youth and Media in Kashmiri Advocacy”.
Youth And Media Still Matter In International Advocacy
The youth and educational institutions’ involvement brings a public diplomacy aspect to Pakistan’s annual Youm-e-Istehsal observances. Digital platforms allow students, academics, journalists and members of civil society to discuss Kashmir with audiences beyond traditional diplomatic channels.
The observance also sparked discussion on the role of international media. Informed international debate on complex political and humanitarian issues can be helped by more access to credible information.
Pakistan Continues To Stress Peaceful Diplomatic Solutions.
The Youm-e-Istehsal events reaffirmed Pakistan’s stated desire for a peaceful and internationally supported solution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. But Pakistan’s diplomatic stance is largely based on the emphasis on UN resolutions and international law.
