Pakistan Detects Poliovirus in 26 Districts

ARY News reported that the national health authorities found poliovirus traces in 26 district environments from all four Pakistani provinces. During 10 days of January 2025 surveillance operations found poliovirus in 15 areas across Sindh along with 5 areas each in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and both Balochistan and Punjab. The news of poliovirus discovery in 2025 makes health authorities very concerned.

The Pakistani health authority begins its 2025 national anti-polio drive on February 3 to protect against polio for 4.54 million children across the nation. Special mobile teams will conduct five-day campaigns in sensitive regions while the rest of Pakistan will have a primary drive across three days then two catch-up days per region. Following these numbers the government expanded their fight against the virus due to Pakistan’s 73 polio cases and 480 positive environmental samples detected in 2024.

Through joint efforts with the Expanded Program on Immunization the Pakistan Polio Program assures twelve free childhood vaccinations at no cost to recipients. The health team insists that we need many killings of the oral polio vaccine to make our bodies resist the permanent disability that polio causes.
