Pakistan beat Malaysia to reach the semi-finals of the Junior Hockey Asia Cup

Passing Malaysia by four goals to one in Oman on Sunday evening, Pakistan booked their place in the semi-finals of the Asia Cup of Junior Men’s Hockey.Pakistan’s Sufiyan Khan scored a hat-trick against Malaysia to secure Pakistan’s place in the semi-finals. On Tuesday, Pakistan will play Japan in the first semi-final of the event.

The match between Pakistan and Japan kicks off at 5.30pm Pakistan time. India take on Malaysia in the second semi-final at 8pm.

Wednesday is the final day of the tournament. Winning this match also guarantees Pakistan a place in the 2025 Junior World Cup, which will be held in India.

In the match between the two teams in Group B today, the Green Shirts completely unseated the young Tigers. Three minutes into the match, Sufiyan scored to give Pakistan a 1-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

However, Adam Ashraf Johari equalised in the 23rd minute to put Malaysia back in front within 15 minutes.

A stunning goal from Sufiyan in the 35th minute restored Pakistan’s lead, however, and in the final quarter Abdul Qayyum extended the lead to 3-1.

This is the national team’s fourth consecutive victory in the tournament, after beating China, Bangladesh and Oman. This means that Pakistan have now won 12 points from four matches.
