Pakistan at risk of Excessive Rainfall

Among 20 countries at risk of heavy rainfall, Pakistan is also included. Other 42 countries are at risk of effects of EI Nino with risk of Dry conditions. The risk factor is mentioned in report by Global Information And Early Warning System.

The countries which are at risk of heavy rainfall are Afghanistan, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Turkiye, Syria, Tajikistan, United States and Uzbekistan.

Countries with EI Nino Dry Weather

According to the report there are also countries with risk of EI Nino induced dry weather conditions. It could have an adverse impact on cereal production in 2023-24 year aggravating local food insecurity.

The EI Nino Oceanographic phenomenon was a key driver of extreme weather events that pose high risks to global food security. Last year in 2022, 222 million people faced acute hunger insecurity in 53 countries.

The report said that, the World will experience a third La nina event in 2023, a event that is occurred rarely and happened only twice since 1950. La Nina events are most commonly associated with wetter conditions in Australia and dry weather in US and East Africa.
