PML-Q leader Tariq Bashir Cheema said Wednesday that the government was threatening its lawmakers from voting against PM Imran Khan.
“It’s too late now. Nothing much can be done. They have mishandled this extremely sensitive matter,” he said.
The senior leader said that Pervaiz Elahi had spoken his heart out – in an apparent reference to the hard-hitting interview of his party’s leader to a private TV channel, wherein he had criticised the PTI government.
On Tuesday, Elahi said all the PTI allies were “100% inclined” towards the Opposition.
“It is Imran Khan’s duty to reverse the tilt. I believe the time to send delegations has passed. If he had done this earlier, the adverse situation could have been avoided,” the speaker said. It is pertinent to state that PML-Q is an ally of the PTI in Punjab and the Centre.
The federal minister said the allied parties were close to the decision on the no-trust move against Prime Minister Imran Khan. He said that the PML-Q was standing with other government allies and would decide collectively.
Refuting rumours about parting ways with the government, Cheema said the party would announce its decision in a clear and proper manner.

Cheema also criticised the government for mishandling Punjab and its governance system, saying that no one was responsible to take over Punjab in its current situation.
“More than 3 factions of PTI have come to the fore in Punjab. The ruling party leaders still speak like intellectuals on the issues of Punjab,” he added.
The PML-Q leader went on to say that the PM Khan should consider handing over Punjab’s Chief Minister seat to Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. “If he [PM] still does not decide, Punjab’s legislators would take their decision.”
Cheema said that the government was threatening its own MNAs, acting like an ‘ostrich head in the sand’.
