naila kiani becomes the first pakistani woman to climb 12 peaks
Naila Kiani Climbs 12th 8000er, Establishes herself in Mountaineering History
Pakistani climber Naila Kiani has once again made history by summiting Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain. With that, she became the only Pakistani woman to summit 12 of the 14 eight-thousanders on earth.
Kanchenjunga, which lies on the border between Nepal and India’s Sikkim state, is very often regarded as the most difficult of all eight-thousanders to the summit. So, to have this achievement for the country and place in Pakistani mountaineering around the world is monumental.
Kiani, who resides in Dubai, is more than a mountain climber. She is also a banker, boxer, mother of two, and aerospace engineer. She graduated from the University of London and works at HSBC Bank as an Associate Vice President. In 2023, she became the second Pakistani woman to reach Everest at the summit in 2013 after Samina Baig. Earlier this year, she became the first Pakistani woman to summit 11 eight-thousanders, including Makalu, and with only two left, Naila Kiani is close to becoming the first Pakistani and one of only a handful of women in the world to climb all 14 of the highest mountains on earth.
