The Indian media reported on Friday that in a major setback for cricket, India has decided to stand firm on its decision not to send its team to Pakistan for next year’s Champions Trophy.

Informed sources told TheIndian Express that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of its security concerns and requested that the matches be played in Dubai instead of Lahore.

A source told TheIndian Express that the BCCI had adopted this position long ago and there was no reason to change it.

Responding to the development, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi told India not to expect any good gestures from Islamabad after New Delhi rejected the idea of travelling to Lahore for the Champions Trophy. He said the Indian media had been reporting for the past two months that the team would not be visiting Pakistan.

He remarked that the cricket governing body had not received any ‘letter’ from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).  Naqvi also said that preparations for the Champions Trophy would continue and that he hoped ‘the event would be a success’. He added that stadium upgrades and preparations for the tournament would go ahead as planned.

Pakistan is committed to staging the entire Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, from February 19 to March 9, in three cities: Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.

To address logistical and security concerns, it has suggested staging all of India’s matches in Lahore, which is close to the Wagah border, to simplify arrangements.
