Babar Azam Loses Top Spot to Shubman Gill in Latest ICC ODI Rankings

In a major shake up of the ICC Men’s Player Rankings, Pakistan cricket star Babar Azam has lost his No.1 spot to Indian cricketer Shubman Gill. Babar has moved to second place with a rating point of 23 behind the new top ranked player Shumban Gill, while India’s Rohit Sharma remains third and 45 behind his fellow opener.

In the Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings, Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana becomes the first Sri Lankan bowler to leap to No.1, taking over Rashid Khan of Afghanistan for the first time. The rankings advancement comes at an exciting time with the Champions Trophy around the corner which has raised the anticipation for this tournament in Pakistan and Dubai.

Among these top players, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell and Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka have also climbed up in the rankings with Mitchell sitting in fifth and Asalanka in eighth. Meanwhile, Rizwan from Pakistan has attained a career best rating 15th place.

Babar’s form recently has come under fire with some very disappointing scores in the tri-nation series. Nevertheless, head coach Aqib Javed is confident that Babar can come good in the Champions Trophy.
