NCCIA Launches Cybercrime Awareness Campaign Across Nine Cities

NCCIA cybercrime awareness

The NCCIA cybercrime awareness campaign has been launched nationwide, with sessions in nine cities to educate students, journalists and the general public about online fraud, internet safety and responsible use of social media. It began on the directive of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, under the supervision of Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.

NCCIA Cybercrime Awareness Campaign Reaches Nine Cities

Sessions were held in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gilgit, Sahiwal, Abbottabad and Karachi. The spread across several provinces and regions shows a determined effort to reach citizens wherever they live.

Special sessions were organised for students at the University of Engineering and Technology in Abbottabad and the Institute of Business Administration in Karachi. In Abbottabad, a cyber awareness walk at the Press Club drew journalists, students and members of civil society.

Enforcement has strengthened in recent years, as the FIA Cybercrime Wing was authorised to act against social media offences. Public awareness complements those powers by reducing the number of people who become victims in the first place.

Other countries are tackling similar challenges, as shown by the UAE’s achievement against financial crimes, while Karachi’s police chief has spoken on serious crime concerns. Popular culture reflects the theme too, with Fawad Khan exploring crime thrillers and dark humour, and Pakistan’s diplomacy continues to stress accountability, including its call for the UN to investigate atrocity crimes in Palestine.

Policy Priorities for a Safer Digital Pakistan

Director General Rizvi said raising awareness among all segments of society is essential to building a safe Digital Pakistan. Citizens were urged to report incidents through the NCCIA helpline, 1799, or to contact their nearest NCCIA circle, and easy reporting builds trust in the system.
