PM Shehbaz Criticises PTI Over Alleged Negligence In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PM Shehbaz criticises PTI

PM Shehbaz criticises PTI leadership for what he called criminal negligence and failure to handle the worsening security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Speaking at an apex committee meeting at the Governor House in Peshawar, he said the federal government was compelled to impose emergency measures and governor’s rule on 11 October 2026 under Articles 232 and 234.

PM Shehbaz Criticises PTI Over Security Breakdown

He alleged a deliberate detachment from the war against terrorism and said militant groups were allowed to resettle in the province. He added that negotiations failed after PTI representatives pulled back following 48 hours of talks, a position also set out in Why Is The Government Defending Governor’s Rule In KP As A Last Resort?

Development Package and Security Directives

During the visit, the prime minister announced a PKR 160 billion development package for the province. He directed authorities to strengthen the Counter-Terrorism Department, improve police training and ensure wheat supply to residents.

The announcement shows the federal government pairing firm security measures with investment in services. Better-trained police and a stronger counter-terrorism force would give residents greater safety, while the package could help deliver the basic facilities that people in the province have long sought.

Corruption Claims and the PTI Response

The prime minister also cited alleged corruption of PKR 100 billion in a clean drinking water project and PKR 37 billion linked to the Kohistan District Accounts Office. These remain claims by the federal side, and the PTI has rejected the emergency as unconstitutional, politically motivated and an assault on the voters’ mandate.

Court review and parliamentary scrutiny give both sides a lawful route to test their positions. Transparent audits, prompt delivery of the development package and a clear timeline for restoring elected governance would help turn a tense political dispute into practical gains for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
