cm maryam nawaz sharif Suthra Punjab contractors
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has given sanitation companies and private Suthra Punjab contractors seven days to improve their performance under the Suthra Punjab programme. The directive came during a meeting that reviewed how sanitation firms are performing across the province.
Suthra Punjab Contractors Face a Seven-Day Deadline
Companies scoring below 80% in any tehsil will receive a warning, while contracts of those scoring below 50% will be terminated. Underperforming private contractors will be removed, and government-run sanitation services must be activated within the same seven-day window.
Workers, Machinery and the Beat System
Officials were instructed to implement the Suthra Punjab beat system across the entire province within a week, and the system is intended to give each area clear accountability, which can make cleanliness standards easier to monitor and improve.
Companies must also ensure full workforce and machinery availability, with a comprehensive micro-plan and progress report expected by next week, and sanitation workers are at the centre of the programme, so all outstanding salaries and dues must be paid, with arrears recovered directly from defaulting private companies.
Accountability and Lasting Public Service Gains
A legal mechanism will be created to guarantee timely payments to workers in future. Such a step protects livelihoods and helps keep a motivated workforce on the streets, which is essential for consistent results.
The approach fits a wider pattern of hands-on provincial governance. Earlier initiatives include the launch of the first electric taxi scheme in Punjab, the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar free housing scheme and the provincial plan against polio and dengue. Public debate has accompanied several of these efforts, including questions raised over the chief minister’s trip to China and the viral exchange when Naseem Shah called Maryam Nawaz “queen”. Clear deadlines, measurable scores and prompt payment of workers give the sanitation programme a firm basis for visible improvement in Punjab’s cities and towns.
