Pak-Afghan War Escalates as Cross-Border Strikes Rock Kabul and Kandahar

Pak-Afghan War

The Pak-Afghan war has grown after new cross-border attacks between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan attacked Kabul and Kandahar in the early morning, claiming it was a retaliation strike against the unprovoked attacks of the Afghans. The Afghan Taliban, in its turn, said that it conducted massive attacks along the common border. The new wave of violence has broken a thin truce that had been reached in October and increased apprehension of a protracted war in the region. With each of the sides recording casualties and military destruction, the Pak-Afghan war is again destabilising the communities on the border and jeopardising the diplomacy in the South Asian region.

Cross-Border Escalation

According to the Pakistani officials, the strikes were aimed at the militant camps that were believed to be the source of the recent suicide bombings in Pakistan. Afghanistan, however, alleged that civilian targets were to be struck, such as homes, a religious school where women and children were killed.

According to the Taliban, the attacks were a retaliatory measure because of heavy casualties on the Pakistani side. Islamabad rejected such allegations, claiming that its troops were acting appropriately to border aggression in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Pakistan-Afghanistan war has since been a confrontation of retaliatory blow and retaliation, with both governments accusing each other of instigating this.

Ceasefire Collapse and Regional Impact

The October ceasefire now seems to have been broken virtually. Citizens living close to the Torkham border crossing reported the heavy gunfire and explosions, which triggered evacuation and the suspension of the crossings of refugees. The 1,600-mile rocky border has continued to be a hot spot in the Pak-Afghan war, which has complicated the security, commerce, and movement of human beings.
