pcb appoints mike hesson as head coach
Mike Hesson likely to take charge of Pakistan’s new head cricket coach
Currently, PCB is seeking a new head coach for the national cricket team, with Mike Hesson most likely at the forefront of that search. Reports claim that the seasoned New Zealander is currently head coach with Islamabad United for the ongoing PSL 10, making hither the PCB’s search for an experienced candidate.
The PCB has previously called for applications for its vacant coaching position, stating that it is considering only those candidates who have Level 3 coaching qualifications and an experience of not less than 10 years at either level-domestic or international.
Hesson fits the bill perfectly as per all criteria provided above since he is the man who has coached the New Zealand national side and has acted as Director of Cricket for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. Under his tutorship, Islamabad United won PSL 9, an impressive feat for a fine coach in his first season in PSL.
The old Pakistan fast bowler Aaqib Javed had taken over the charge as an interim coach after Gary Kirsten turned his position, but after renewing his contract in February 2025, he does not want to continue.
In addition to Hesson, former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is also being considered. But every sign indicates that Hesson is the front-runner.
