England fast bowler Saqib Mahmood has been issued the Indian visa which will allow him to join his colleagues for the T20I series planned for January 22 in Kolkata. The 27-year-old footballer of Pakistan origin will now fly with his team mates tomorrow to India after missing a vital camp in UAE due to some visa complications .
This is not the first time English-based Pakistani players have experienced problems over visas while planning a tour to India. The same problems were faced by off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, who failed to enter the country for the first Test in Hyderabad last year, and leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed, who had entry problems in Rajkot because he only had a single-entry visa. Indeed Mahmood himself has faced visa issues before – he once missed an England Lions tour six years ago and a Lancashire pre-season in India.
The visa confirmation comes as particularly good news for England, as Mahmood recently exploded into form in the West Indies, taking nine wickets in three T20I matches and setting a record as the England bowler with the most Power-play wickets in a men’s series.
