On Wednesday, a sessions court in Lahore asked the concerned authorities to register a case against Rana Sanaullah, the Interior Minister, for allegedly torturing lawyers in Islamabad on May 25 — the day of the PTI’s “Azadi March”.
Mian Mudassar Umar Bodla, the Additional Sessions Judge, gave the verdict after hearing the arguments of the lawyers of both sides.
The order was on the petition filed by the Haider Majeed, an advocate who accused the police of not registering a case as asked.
Barrister Hassan Niazi and other lawyers also represented the petitioner. Meanwhile, a video of the incident was also played in the room.
According to the court order, the petitioner was boarding his vehicle with his colleagues when he was pulled over by the police.
The order went on to say that the petitioner was “baton-charged, humiliated, disgraced and his vehicle was damaged badly,” even though he was cooperating with law enforcers.

The court subsequently asked the petitioner to reach out to the relevant SHO with a copy of the court order to move forth with the matter.
Last week, PTI Chairman Imran Khan took to his official Twitter handle to share videos of alleged police torture and termed it “condemnable and unacceptable”.
Khan had posted on Twitter a video montage of the police brutality and termed it “condemnable and unacceptable”.
“Flouting the Constitution [and] SC orders, this criminal imported government unleashed police brutality on our peaceful Azadi March protestors,” Khan said
He had also said that his party would be reaching out to high courts for registration of cases against those responsible for resorting to the use of force against his party workers during their march.
