The UAE Pakistan Assistance Programme (UAE PAP) recently revealed the UAE Polio Vaccination Campaign results – carried out from 2014 to the end of September 2021 in Pakistan.
The results signify that about 583,240,876 doses of vaccination have been administered against polio in 8 years – covering more than 102 million Pakistani children.
The UAE PAP complemented the fact that the campaign was on the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, envisioning the eradication of polio around the world. This initiative is in line with the UAE’s cooperation with international organisations and humanitarian approach via social development programmes to curb the spread of pandemics and diseases. The UAE has long been providing humanitarian and health assistance to underprivileged people and communities, and supporting polio eradication initiatives over and across.

The UAE has been a regular provider of humanitarian and development assistance to Pakistan, supporting its health sector programmes in the country.
Since 2011, the UAE has donated US$250 million to charity and humanitarian efforts aimed at providing vaccines and sponsoring polio eradication campaigns. Most notably, Pakistan and Afghanistan have been amongst countries targeted by this initiative.
The campaign, since the beginning of 2021, has succeeded in the provision of 75,148,404 doses of vaccination in Pakistan.
During the roadblocks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the UAE Polio Vaccination Campaign has managed to provide 127,664,157 jabs from July 2020 until September 2021.
The programme’s geographical coverage comprised a total of 84 high-risk areas in Pakistan that were difficult to reach. Its scope included about 34 areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where local children were given 298,581,946 doses of the vaccine. Furthermore, a total of 33 areas of Balochistan Province were also covered, where children received 86,898,201 jabs. A total of 173,557,631 doses were given to children in Sindh.
