KARACHI: In the space of a few hours, Pakistan lost two of its widely celebrated female artists Kanwal Naseer and Haseena Moin.
Radio and TV artist and Pakistan’s first female newscaster, Kanwal Naseer, passed away on Thursday after an episode of a brief illness.
Kanwal was the first female announcer of Pakistan Television (PTV), was suffering from diabetes, and was being treated in a private hospital.
She was television and radio’s famous voice and entertained people with her brilliant skills as an artist. Kanwal recently said, at an event, that there were only three things in her life; home, school, and radio.

Kanwal was the daughter of legendary actor Mohini Hameed and mother in law of Ahmed Jawad, of PTI Secretary Information. She was born in Lahore in 1948.
Kanwal Naseer on 26th November 1964, made her first announcement on PTV. She was given Pride of Performance and other national awards in view of her services.
Pakistan’s legendary playwright and dramatist Haseena Moin breathed her last at the age of 79.
Her family confirmed the unfortunate news on Friday.
She had been battling cancer but the primary cause of her death hasn’t been revealed yet.
Her funeral prayers were held after Asar in Nazimabad, Karachi.
She wrote many plays for radio, stage, and television that gained international repute.
She is the name behind Pakistani hit dramas like Tanhaiyaan, Ankahi, Kiran Kahani, Aahat, Dhoop Kinaray, Uncle Urfi, Kohar, Shehzori, Des Pardes, Aansoo, Pal Do Pal, Parchaiyan (1976) and Parosi.
She hailed from Kanpur and there she received her early education. She moved to Karachi in the 1950s where she studied from the Government College for Women
