The nation lost a revered filmmaker and Bollywood legend Manoj Kumar when he died in his 87th year at Mumbai medical facilities. The veteran star who worked in film for many years died at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital because of his age-related health problems.

Dr. Santosh Shetty explained why Manoj Kumar died while Kunal Goswami informed about his father’s severe health conditions before his passing. 

Between the 1960s and 1970s Manoj Kumar established his film actor status by creating patriotic movies following his birth in 1937 to parents in Punjab. The audience embraced his movies which earned him loyal fans and they titled him Bharat Kumar because he symbolized their nation.

Kumar’s illustrious filmography includes critically acclaimed works that shaped the landscape of Indian cinema:

  • Shaheed (1965) – A biographical film on freedom fighter Bhagat Singh
  • Upkar (1967) – A story promoting the “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan” (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer) slogan
  • Roti Kapada Aur Makaan (1974) – Addressing social issues of post-independence India
  • Kranti (1981) – A historical drama set during India’s struggle for independence

As an actor-director, Manoj Kumar received awards throughout his film career, including the top film industry award, the Dadasaheb Phalke, and the Padma Shri.
