Usama Mir signs three-year T20 deal with Worcestershire

Pakistan leg-spinner Usama Mir has signed a three-year T20 contract with English county side Worcestershire. He will play for the club in the Vitality T20 Blast. For the first year of his contract, Mir will play as an overseas cricketer, but from 2027, he is currently and indefinitely set to play as a local cricketer. At 28, Usama is also eligible for naturalisation, making him eligible to switch status and further entrench in the domestic cricket fabric of England.

From Pakistan to Worcestershire

Usama, prominent for his leg-spin variations and lower-order batting value, has been taking small steps upwards in various leagues. The move marks another continued chapter for Mir in his T20 career.

He has played in England before, first for Worcestershire in the 2023 season, putting forward his mettle with demonstrated skills and consistency. He returns after a successful campaign and a boost towards the bigger picture of the future and better campaigns for Worcestershire.

What it Means for Usama Mir

This contract guarantees Mir long-term job security and a continuous place in a competitive league. It also exemplifies the recent trend of international players embedding themselves into English county cricket with a long-term commitment. In signing with Worcestershire, Usama Mir adds his name to the list of cricketers who are using the English county system as more than just a short-term opportunity, rather like a professional base and career opportunity.
