us consulate issues shelter in place order after drone activity
There were recent reports of drone explosions and airspace violations over Lahore, which has subsequently made the US Consulate General to order everyone in the building to stay indoors. This security threat notification was posted on the website on May 8, 2025, due to the increasing insecurity in this second-largest city of Pakistan.
Several sources suggest the local government has already started evacuation of residents living near the Lahore Airport but not much information has been disclosed. The Consulate’s emergency directive is relevant to all the American employees of the embassy in the described region.
“I guess the situation is still open,” stated one insider who is closely associated with the event. The situation is being watched closely while ensuring the safety of American citizens in the aforementioned countries. The consulate has given specific advice to its citizens in Lahore and other areas of that region:
- Seek secure shelter immediately
- Prepare evacuation plans independent of U.S. government assistance
- Ensure travel documents are current and readily accessible
- Stay informed through local media channels
- Maintain proper identification and comply with authorities
Americans living in these areas experiencing conflict are urged to leave if they can do so safely. Otherwise, they should stay indoors as long as is necessary for the situation to change for the better. Currently, there are three offices of the U.S. in Pakistan, which includes the embassy in Islamabad and consulates in Peshawar and Karachi, which offer emergency services through the help desks for the American citizens. There will also be any updates to the situation through the STEP once more as and when it happens official from the government.
