The Department of Government Efficiency: What is it?
In a statement released on Tuesday, Trump announced the DOGE calling it an attempt to “slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures and restructure Federal Agencies.”
The name alludes to Musk’s endorsement of dogecoin, a cryptocurrency that features a happy Shiba Inu dog and was made as a joke by two software developers. (Dogecoin is currently trading at 38 cents having more than tripled in value during the past month.)
Trump stated that Musk and Ramaswamy’s project “will conclude no later than July 4, 2026,” which is the year that the Declaration of Independence is celebrated for the 250th time.
Trump just described the initiative’s parameters, he made no mention of its funding or staffing. A question concerning the DOGE’s finance and whether Musk or Ramaswamy will receive compensation for their contributions to the endeavor was not answered by the Trump campaign.
President-elect Trump also said that Musk and Ramaswamy might not take on formal government roles. He clarified that they would, “provide advice and guidance from outside of government, and will partner with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to drive large-scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to government never seen before.”
