The United States recently warned Pakistan about possible sanctions following a trade agreement with Iran during the visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Pakistan. According to ARY News, the US State Department’s Principal Deputy Spokesperson, Vedant Patel, advised against business dealings with Iran, citing the risk of sanctions.

Vedant Patel who is a spokesperson of US stated that the United States warns anyone considering business with Iran to be aware of these Potential Sanctions.  The United States also recognized that Pakistan has the right to make its own Foreign policy decisions and they can engage in agreements with other countries.

Vedant Patel also said that the United States is Pakistan’s biggest Export Market and one of its biggest investors. This shows a strong trade relationship between the two Nations. However Vedant Patel urged caution for those considering new trade deals with Iran due to the possibility of United States sanctions.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi met with various Pakistani officials During his visit to Pakistan. He met President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief minister Maryam Nawaz and army officials. During President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit both Countries signed eight agreements to enhance Cooperation in different areas. They will cooperate in different areas such as trade, science, technology, agriculture, health, culture and judicial matters.

One of the agreements signed during Raisi’s visit was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Rimdan-Hand Joint Free/Special Zone. This was part of a broader effort to boost economic cooperation between Pakistan and Iran. The MoU was signed by Ambreen Iftikhar, Secretary of the Board of Investment, and Hojjatollah Abdolmaleki, Iranian Advisor to the President and Secretary of the Supreme Council of Free Trade Industrial and Special Economic Zones.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi returned to Tehran from Karachi after his three-day visit.  Pakistan’s engagement with Iran has brought concerns from the United States. This means Pakistan must maintain its international relations.
