Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told a press briefing that Pakistan and the US are long-standing friends and partners, Express News reported.

She also said that former President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have congratulated the new US President Donald Trump.

However, Pakistan is keen to maintain strong bilateral relations with the US. She said that speculation about interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs was unfounded.

She also announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would be attending the Riyadh summit on 11 November.

The Prime Minister will attend with a high-level delegation. Pakistan will advocate the creation of a Free Palestinian State and call for an end to Israeli aggression.

The Prime Minister will also travel to Baku to attend the Climate Change Conference on 12-13 November.

PM Shehbaz and Bilawal congratulate Trump on US election victory

The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated Donald Trump on his re-election as President of the United States, calling it a ‘historic victory’ for a second term.

He tweeted that he was looking forward to working with the new administration to strengthen Pakistani-American relations.

“I look forward to working closely with the incoming administration to further strengthen and broaden the Pakistan-US partnership,” Shehbaz wrote.

Earlier on Wednesday, senior officials told Express News that linking the potential release of PTI founder Imran Khan to the US elections and their recent results was pure speculation.

They believed that the cases against Imran were still pending in the courts and that his release was a local legal matter.

They expect ties with the new US administration under President Donald Trump to improve, and the country planned to continue its policy of maintaining relations on an equal footing.
