starlink satellite internet access in pakistan by year end
Starlink is set to initiate internet services in Pakistan this year
Pakistan is all set to launch the first-ever satellite-based internet service with Elon Musk‘s Starlink. Based on sources’ claims, Starlink is anticipated to kick off operations in the country by 2025. The company has registered the application with national authorities and has committed to follow Pakistan’s legal and regulatory system.
Licensing Process
The Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (P-SARB) is finalizing its satellite regulatory framework. Once finalized, Starlink will be registered officially, and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will issue the operational license. Recently, P-SARB has convened a workshop with satellite companies to advise on the New Rules and Regulations related to Satellites in Pakistan. Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja attended the workshop. Although Amazon, OneWeb, and Shanghai Telecom expressed their interest, Starlink was the first to apply under the new system.
Elon Musk May Visit Pakistan
There are indications that Elon Musk will visit the country for the official launch event of Starlink in Pakistan later this year. The service is already available across some South Asian countries and will improve connectivity and access to the internet in rural and remote areas of the country.
Boost for Pakistan’s Digital Future
Officials say the launch of Starlink will help sustain Pakistan’s digital development, create new economic opportunities, and enhance nationwide connectivity. They also stated that Starlink does not pose a security risk to any agencies of national control. With high-speed satellite broadband about to arrive, Pakistan will have made a significant leap in its digital transformation.
