Sindh is on the verge of a major infrastructure expansion in 2026 as the provincial government and federal authorities move ahead with Sindh road projects 2026, a Rs140.91 billion highway development package. The plan on a large scale is aimed at improving the transportation networks, reinforcing regional connectivity and supporting economic activities in the province’s urban and rural areas.
The initiative comprises five major highway projects under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) that are targeted to be completed by June 2027. These projects are to improve movement between districts, improve trade routes, reduce time of travel and provide better access to markets, industries and agricultural regions.
The development package is in line with Pakistan’s overall emphasis on infrastructure development, with Sindh being a key player because of its status as an economic hub. Better roads are expected to help businesses, farmers, transport operators and communities by providing more efficient links between major cities and remote areas.
Federal, Sindh Govts Share Rs140.91bn Infrastructure Investment
The total investment for the Sindh road development programme is Rs140.91 billion. These strategic transportation projects are being completed with the contribution of Rs96.75 billion from the federal government and Rs44.15 billion from the Sindh government.
The funding structure reflects cooperation between federal and provincial authorities to strengthen Sindh’s road infrastructure. The projects are being monitored for timely execution, quality construction and efficient use of development resources.
The highway projects are projected to generate direct and indirect economic benefits, including improved logistics networks, increased investment opportunities and linking of agricultural areas to commercial markets.
Sindh Coastal Highway Extension To Enhance Coastal Connectivity
One of the key projects under the development package is the Sindh Coastal Highway Extension, which is spread over a distance of 36 kilometres with an estimated cost of Rs37.7 billion.
The project seeks to enhance transportation links along Sindh’s coastal areas and to improve access to developing regions. Work orders were issued in June 2026, after which contractors started mobilising machinery and resources at the construction site.
Economic Significance Of Mehran Highway Construction Status
The Rs 17.79 billion project of 150 kilometres long Mehran Highway is underway. Construction has already begun, and progress has been reported on several sections. Authorities have finished asphalt base work on about 44 kilometres of the highway, a significant step in project development. The project is a significant investment in Sindh’s internal connectivity and economic growth.
Sanghar-Rohri Road Project To Improve Regional Transport Connectivity
Another major part of the Rs141 billion development plan is the Sanghar-Rohri Road project. The 221-kilometre project is estimated to cost Rs35.08 billion.
The road development plan is geared towards widening the existing roads and upgrading the infrastructure standards. Better roads in these regions can help farmers to move their agricultural products, allow businesses to increase their operations and facilitate public travel facilities. The Sanghar-Rohri corridor is expected to emerge as a major transport artery supporting economic activity across the province.
Nawabshah-Ranipur Dualization Project For Safer Journeys
The Nawabshah-Ranipur Dualization Project would be executed over a distance of 135 kilometres with an estimated investment of Rs41.03 billion.
The existing road is due to be converted to a dual carriageway to improve the flow of traffic, reduce congestion and improve road safety. High-traffic routes, where increasing vehicle movement demands improved road capacity, are the main targets for dualization projects . The project will improve travel conditions for passengers and commercial vehicles, and enable faster transportation between important locations.
Tando Allahyar-Tando Adam Road Dualisation Progress And Problems
The Tando Allahyar-Tando Adam Road Dualisation Project is 31.4 kilometres long and is estimated to cost Rs9.28 billion, and the project aims to improve connectivity between key towns and enhance road capacity. However, authorities are dealing with several challenges, including utility relocation, transmission line shifting and pending approvals from Pakistan Railways.
It is considered important to solve these problems on time to keep construction progress and to meet the targeted completion timeline.
Once completed, the dual carriageway will provide better transportation facilities for residents, businesses and transport operators in the region.
Rural Road Rehabilitation Improves Agriculture And Local Communities
Along with major highway projects, Sindh has also continued to work on restoring rural road networks destroyed in previous flood-related destruction.
More than 141 farm-to-market roads in 19 districts have also been rehabilitated as part of recovery efforts.
