Shubman Gill Dethrones Babar Azam to Claim Top Spot in ICC ODI Rankings

Shubman Gill rapidly seized the top spot at ODI cricket when he surpassed Babar Azam and earned his place as the best ODI batsman in the world. The ODI Rankings update at the top creates an exciting year-long lead-up to the Champions Trophy that will take place in Pakistani and Dubai venues. Gill comes back to rank number one after achieving it earlier in the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Babar Azam falls to position two after the recent rankings adjusted him 23 points lower yet left Rohit Sharma fixed in his third rank 45 points behind Shubman Gill. Daryl Mitchell made a strong climb from ninth to fifth ranking while Charith Asalanka gained eight spots from twentieth to eighth ranking. Mohammad Rizwan reached the 15th ranking spot with an all-time high performance that boosted his rank by six positions.

Babar lost his top ranking position because he scored only 10 runs, 23 runs, and 29 runs in all matches of the tri-nation series. According to Aqib Javed Babar will succeed as Pakistan’s leading batsman despite public doubts about his team change. Even when Barbar begins matches successfully he needs to bat longer to help in the innings. Due to his upcoming vital games for Pakistan Javed believes Babar will meet his high performance standards as shown during the tri-series.
