Controversy erupted among fans when pop icon Selena Gomez posted and after she deleted an emotional video concerning the deportation of undocumented immigrants by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Mexican-American singer — whose paternal grandparents were undocumented immigrants — expressed distress over recent ICE operations targeting immigrant communities.
Gomez pleaded in a tearful Instagram story: “I just wanted to say that I’m so sorry.” The children are getting picked on.’ All my people. I don’t understand.” “Certified Moron” and under attack are Tomi Lahren’s words for Gomez, whom she also calls a ‘Disney Channel girl’ for her past. After the criticism, Gomez pulled the video down and then tweeted, briefly, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”
Since the Trump administration began upping ICE operations, the arrests have jumped and now come at about 2,300 in four days. Gomez, who has long been a champion for immigrant rights, produced the documentary “Living Undocumented” and penned a Time essay on America’s immigration crisis.
