Russia and Ukraine are set to exchange 115 prisoners each today, Saturday, the 24th of August 2024, after the negotiations were mediated by the United Arab Emirates. This is going to be the first prisoner swap since Ukraine launched its aggressive offence inside Russian territory this month.
This is according to sources and not made public till now. As of now, there have been no reports or comments from either side, that is, from either Kiev or from Moscow about this prisoner exchange matter.
This would be the seventh successful prisoner exchange program mediated by Abu Dhabi since February 2022 when the war started after Russian Defence Forces invaded Ukrainian territory by land if all goes according to plan.
The UAE official said that their ability to talk to a range of international forces and act as mediators solving issues between troubled parties has taken the country to a whole new level and as a sign of promotion of cooperation and security.
Since the war has escalated since Feb 2022, dividing the NATO and US backed Ukraine and Russia federation forces, the Middle Eastern country (UAE) has been able to release prisoners of war counting up to 1788, numbers include today’s prisoner swap.
Ukraine Military launched a surprise attack on Aug 6 into the Kursk region of Russia. It’s being said that this is the biggest attack inside Russian territory by any foreign power since WW2.
