Special assistance for overseas Pakistanis to be announced soon
A Great Package has been announced for overseas Pakistanis by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concerning their huge contributions and long-pending issues. He made an announcement to launch several major initiatives for the Pakistani diaspora while addressing the First Annual Convention of Overseas Pakistanis in Islamabad.
Shifting Justice at Special Courts
This is perhaps among the greatest highlights of the announcement– that special courts would henceforth be set up in Islamabad to expedite legal matters for overseas citizens. The Prime Minister said, however, these courts would soon be established in all provinces. Virtual hearings and e-filing of documents will help the persons of interest make the process of accessing the law more user-friendly for Pakistanis residing abroad.
5% Quota in Universities and More Seats in Medical Colleges
Now, in federal universities, a 5% quota will be allocated for children of overseas Pakistanis. This is meant to encourage the educational hopes of overseas families. Also, 3000 seats in medical colleges have been earmarked for these students. PM Shehbaz additionally announced that the age of residence for government jobs for overseas applicants will be relaxed for five years, to enable easier employment in the public sector for returning citizens.
In Punjab, the government has launched an online property sale deed registration system to ease property transactions. An exclusive facilitation office has also been established in the province to assist overseas citizens with an array of other services.
New Airport for AJK and National Awards
In a long-overdue announcement, Prime Minister Shehbaz has shared the news of plans for the construction of an international airport in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, finally catering to the decades-long demand of the AJK diaspora.
