The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has launched the second season of its School Talent Hunt Programme at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The latest edition represents a major expansion compared to the previous season, expanding participation to approximately 1,200 schools situated in 100 districts nationwide.
The initiative seeks to scout talented boys and girls through organised cricket in schools, apart from giving equal opportunities to players from urban and rural backgrounds. With the addition of more districts, the PCB hopes to lift cricket development at the grassroots level and discover future stars from every part of Pakistan.
Local Trials Kick Off School Selection Process
The programme begins with trials at the school level, where the participating institutions look for their best cricketers. Schools must complete their squads by the July 30 deadline and have transparent selection processes.
These trials allow students to compete amongst their peers and to demonstrate batting, bowling, fielding and overall match awareness. Selection is based on cricket ability, discipline, fitness and potential for long-term development.
School coaches and administrators are important during this phase to ensure that the deserving players get a fair opportunity. Good performances in these first tests are the first step on the national scouting ladder.
PCB Verification & Professional Training Camps
The PCB starts the verification process after the schools have made their picks. The process is expected to be completed by August 10. “This is where we look at player eligibility, school registrations, etc. to ensure there is transparency and fair competition among all the districts involved.
The Pakistan Cricket Board also gives dedicated support to the qualified schools after verification. The young players will be working directly with the professional coaches appointed by the PCB during the month-long development period from August 10 to September 10.
