papua new guinea hit by 5.95 magnitude earthquake in new britain
UKaha Observatory recorded a 5.95 magnitude earthquake near New Britain Region Papua New Guinea on Saturday. The quake originated at a 10 km (6.2 mile) deep place. One week after a 7.1 quake hit the New Britain Region the area suffered another tremor of 5.95 magnitude. An earthquake measuring 5.95 magnitude originated 49 kilometers deep in New Britain Region as reported by EMSC. This disturbance caused EMSC and US Tsunami Warning Center officials to take warning action.
People cannot accurately measure the earthquake impact because the struck areas lie in distant locations. Earthquakes occur frequently in Papua New Guinea because this country lies near the Pacific Ocean’s “Ring of Fire” where earthquakes form as tectonic plates rub together.
The nation has gone through major earthquake disasters throughout its past. A 2018 mountainous earthquake in PNG’s remote highlands had a 7.5 magnitude strength and killed 100+ people plus wrecked 1000+ residences.
Southeast Asian countries today face new serious earthquakes. The combined earthquake of March 28 hit Myanmar and Thailand, leaving hundreds dead and destroying most of Mandalay. Many towns and reliefs in Myanmar’s central administration district received heavy damage during the earthquake.
The natural disaster in Myanmar affected Mandalay so severely that over 3,000 people lost their lives within 72 hours. The disaster damaged important infrastructure systems, which made it hard to help people, even though Myanmar faces many natural dangers and lacks emergency response capabilities.
