Pakistan won a thrilling first One Day International match at Boland Park, Paarl, by three wickets, thanks to the heroics of Saim Ayub and a stellar round performance by Salman Agha. The match was full of fluctuating moments, with Pakistan at one stage at 60/4 and then chasing a target of 240 in 49.3 overs.
Saim Ayub batted magnificently and made 109 off 119 balls, and he shared a perfect partnership of 141 runs with vice-captain Salman Agha, who was not out at 82. Earlier, Agha was the main with the ball taking very economical 4/32 to restrict South Africa to 239. Heinrich Klaasen made 86 for the hosts but Pakistan’s bowling and batting strength won them this pulsating contest.
The match started with dramatic scenes such as some early setbacks for the Pakistan team and later coming back into the game by Ayub and Agha. This win also proved the actual identity of the Pakistan team and at the same time how they are capable of coming back in the series more powerfully.
