pakistan strengthens ties with belarus as pm shehbaz begins official visit
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif started his two-day official Belarus journey with President Aleksandr Lukashenko for more connection with this country. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif traveled to Belarus with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and an important group of Pakistani officials, including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
The leaders of Pakistan and Belarus have met multiple times during the last six months before the current visit. During February 2025 the 8th Joint Ministerial Commission met and in April 2025 a mixed delegation of ministers from Pakistan went to Belarus to prepare for the current visit.
PM Shehbaz meets President Lukashenko on April 10-11 to evaluate development progress and sign up for several new agreements that benefit both nations.
The Prime Minister builds on the progress made when Pakistan and Belarus formed their 2025-27 Comprehensive Cooperation Roadmap agreement in November 2024. President Lukashenko successfully finalized 15 memorandums of understanding during his stop in Pakistan.
Key areas of cooperation established in previous agreements include:
- Economic partnerships in e-commerce and halal trade
- Scientific and technological collaboration
- Intelligence sharing on money laundering and terrorism financing
- Environmental and climate change initiatives
- An extradition treaty strengthening legal frameworks
Pakistan’s Foreign Office notes, “The Prime Minister’s visit strengthens the ongoing partnership between Pakistan and Belarus because of the nations’ strong esteem for diplomatic and economic ties.” These top-level exchanges prove that both nations want to strengthen their common work areas through official meetings.
